Fund for Mahalir Illam
The "Fund for Mahalir Illam" (Mahalir Illam) is a charity in Australia. Mahalir Illam in Tamil means "Girls Home". It was established in September 2008, to provide a safe and secure environment for orphaned girls in Sri Lanka and to provide the basic needs in life. Currently, we have sponsored eighty-one children in Thilagawathiyar Girls Home, Pallugamam, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.
The Mahalir Illam is registered in the Australian Business Register and is also endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to access charity concessions, GST exemption, and income Tax exemption. Mahalirillam is also registered Public Benevolent Institution with Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. Donations made to Mahalir Illam are tax deductible following endorsement as a Deductible Gift Recipient by Australian Government.
Our belief is that in order for disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka to succeed in life, they need to be financially supported by families living abroad such as Australia and in other countries. We focus on helping these children from a tender age to prepare them to achieve their full potential in life.
